United by the romance of Aleramo

According to popular legend the princess Adelasia, daughter of Otto I of Saxony, fled in Liguria with Aleramo, who was his squire and that she had married against the wishes of his father.

Near Montenotte a fortress gets the name of Adelasia, because there the two have found a temporary refuge.

In Liguria Adelasia and Aleramo founded the settlement of Alaxia in honor of the princess. Alaxia was later called Alassio.

After the elopement Aleramo and Adelasia became Carbonari until the day that Otto I, who came to fight against the Saracens, rached the couple on the seashore and forgave them offering the marquisates of Acqui, Monferrato and Savona.
